The system that I developed wasn’t too different from the one that I had planned in my Project Proposal. There is a main website along with a variety of media. One thing I did change was the physical element of the system. I had intended to create objects to interact with, but this seemed more and more unfeasible as I developed the idea.
Instead, I incorporated the Semacode websites as a way to get the system out into the public and get users to interact in a new way with their mobile phones.
I also decided to focus mainly on the main narrative website and Semacode websites. If I had tried to concentrate on all of the mediums then I would have spread my efforts too thinly.
I enjoyed researching for this project and tried to make the research influence my concept and designs, for example the structure of the story.
For the main narrative website I decided to make it in a graphic novel style. I felt this would give me more freedom in what I could show without the restraints of setting and actors.
I was going to ask someone from graphics or illustration to work alongside me to create these images. However, I decided against it for two reasons. The first one was that the work that would be displayed would be their's and not my own, perhaps causing confusion. Their work may also not be the type of thing I wanted. The style or visual elements could have been not to my liking, although I realise this is part of a collaborative design process.
The second reason was that I felt it was too much of a risk to rely on someone to come up with such a huge part of my project. This is my degree and If they don't come up with the material, I'd be in trouble.
However, this created a huge task for me, perhaps bigger than I thought it would be. But I enjoyed the challenge at times and found it interesting investigating techniques and styles.
