The context that I imagined the bins could be placed in would be a relaxed social setting. Even though the bins could stand out and look out of place to people, that might be one of the charming features of them.
The picture highlights how the bins will be neutral to the eye and totally self contained. It is only when the bins are opened up that people will fully realise that they are different and that would be very good to gauge that reaction.

The name of my project was very important as it was the first impression people will get of the project and will help them to form an idea of what the project could entail and the ideas that surround it.
Because I was going down the route of making people more aware of recycling in a fun and light hearted way I thought the name ‘one more time’ would help promote this.
It has the connection to the recycling and it is also the name of a song I like very much and also it ties into the idea of the musical recycling bin.
The first name I thought to give the project was “ are you aware?” it kept this name for a long period of the project but for some reason I never came to ever truly like it as I thought it did not suit the project theme as well as another name could, so when I finally decided to change the name, to ‘one more time’ I was much happier and could see the connection to both music and recycling.
The actually project name ‘wheelies of steel; came about through listening to lots of music, especially hip hop and rap music, where the dj’s turntable is always called the wheels of steel. I though it to be a funny twist on that idea of two musical wheelie bins and the name has stuck since then.
I spoke to my supervisor for a long time on what I could do with the wheelie bins, and in the end we both thought keeping the bins looking neutral but making the interface the main feature of difference would make the project strong and give a good impression at the degree show.
The fact that I am using wheelie bins for the project means that I can store all the technical features of the project safely inside the bins and they will not be visible to people looking at them, especially when their lids are closed, as the speakers will be placed inside the lids of the bins.
