The bin can be set up in any part of the home, and because it is foldable it can be moved to a new flat very easily if neccessary.

You can see the colours that represent the different sections of the bin, the more recycling that is done the more the colours go up.

The folding bin was another of my initial ideas for the project, I had the idea of being able to deliver a product through someone’s door that they could set up themselves and would allow people to set up a system so they could recycle products easily and would encourage them to recycle in a more organised way.
It would let the user know how easy it is to recycle when you organise yourself. The best thing about it being folding meant it was mobile and could be taken to another flat if the student were to move. To make this idea interactive, I had the idea of building a simple interface with an ambient light strip on it, so when someone puts waste into the bin a weight sensor will register the weight and cause the colour strips to rise up, when the colours reach the top then the user will know that they are ready to recycle that section of the bin, and can quickly remove the section and take it to the nearest recycling point.

This idea was a difficult one to envision making as it would have been really hard to get the device top work properly, the fact I would have had to build a weight sensor into something that suppose to mobile was going to be too difficult to do. Their was definitely a way of doing this idea but it would have taken too long to do and at the end of the project, it might not be as good as it could have been.
