Focus Group

Since this is my first group I had to clearly describe my ideas behind my game and what the concept for the game was.

  • 3 Unique Cards required to escape
  • How to win – Escape before rest
  • Guards patrol prison and inmates (the players must avoid them)
  • Board Setup similar to Monopoly

Main Points

There were opinions among the focus group as to whether or not I should implement technology or construct the game in 3D. Although I had considered this research showed that mostof the popular board gamer do not include technology. There are some games that are popular using 3D landscapes, mainly the games from the game workshop. Shortly after the focus group was over I decided against incorporating technology into my game but had not completely ruled it out.

Another item that mentioned was the games age limit. I had not thought into deep detail about this and was not prepared to comment on it as strongly as I am during this write up: Shortly after the focus group was over I did my best to design the game in a way that would have a young age limit, in order to appeal to a younger market and made sure my attack cards were not too detailed graphically and not named inappropriately.

I stated that the game would be similar to a monopoly layout and Sam raised a point what will each square represent on the board?

The user testing session was just in the early stages so I was open to suggestions on the board game design, I had not yet thought what the squares would represent on the board. Fortunately we decided I should use a grid as the board layout which would give the players much more freedom and choices. I soon changed my design direction and started to sketch up some new ideas..
