Escape Cards

There are 3 types of cards:

  • Attack
  • Defence
  • Escape

The cards have developed during the design of the game through prototyping and user testing. The first cards designed were the escape cards; these cards gave three clear instructions to the user. The route they needed to escape through with the red escape card, the blueprint required for the escape (the green card) and finally the tool card (black card).

To escape the users must collect the linking cards to their escape card. For example if a user has the truck escape card he must have the following laundry job and laundry sack cards to escape. The cards therefore have 3 pieces of information on them, the type of card which is shown by the cards color, the name of the card, and the required cards to go with it.

The picture below shows the winners hand after a game of Jail Break. Those 3 cards are early prototypes of the design, showing the title of the card and the required cards with which to escape.

During the user testing the users were sometimes confused about what the card did or the type of card they had, this was eventually corrected after the users started to learn the game. However the prototype cards did show areas for improvement with graphics being added to the individual cards in future prototypes, some examples of these can be viewed here>>>
