project evaluationpersonal design process design realisation

Evaluation
Tackling a project that is mainly technology based was a challenge, as developing the technical and the user based side of the project simultaneously meant that they both influence each other, causing compromises to be made so both sides of the project complimented each other. I did not want an over complicated system, making it difficult to use, but at the same time I did not want to create something so simplistic that it created no experience for the user.

Reflecting on my project so far, I feel that I have worked through the traditional design process well, allowing my self to work through my project step by step. I began my project with an unclear idea of what my project was going to be, but after beginning my research I realised the ideas that I initially had were not wrong, I was just not looking at them from the right perspective. From this point I drove my project step by step, allowing myself enough time to go back a re-iterate my design ideas without altering my initial concept. Working in this way has allowed me to gradually build up my project bit by bit over the entire year, resulting in my concept developing into a strong design realisation.

An important aspect of my project was to create a fully working system. By starting off with small prototypes and building them up, I allowed myself to gain a greater understanding of what I was doing, and it allowed me to make little mistakes, instead of one big mistake at the end, making it easier to correct them.

Documenting my work from time to time felt like a tedious task, however, by doing so, it allowed me to evaluate my work and keep me on track. By keeping a small note book, bullet pointing what I was doing daily, allowed me to keep a week to week blog of my project. In addition to a small note book and weekly blog, I  kept large sheets of paper on my desk, adding any new ideas to them. This turned out to be a useful resource whenever I was feeling lost with my project, as by doing so, I could read over the sheets and clearly see my design process and idea development.

Overall I am satisfied with the projects progress, however during the first semester the project felt like it was moving very slowly, as I had to get to grips with using a new programming language. However, I think this challenge made me more determined to carry on for both my own learning and for the project outcome. Looking back, if I knew how difficult it was going to be to develop my own system I may have taken a different path, but I feel the hard work and determination with my concept has paid off.
I feel that I have managed my project in terms of time well, and looking back I have stuck very closely to my initial project proposal. By  doing so, the project has not at any stage felt rushed, however looking back there are some element that I would have tried to concentrate on more, like more user testing. By documenting my work weekly, it helped me review my progress, and plan what I was going to tackle next.

By the time of the degree show I am proposing to expand the audio library of my system, creating a more diverse set of outputs for the system.
