This project sets out to investigate if methods of interaction can meaningfully
improve the experience of comic books. As part of the proposal I wanted
to consider books as not merely static objects but as tools for fuelling
interactive experiences.

During the course of this project I performed research to investigate
products that have already attempted to confront issues of comics, interaction
and technology. This was to inform my design process to identify positive
and negative aspects of existing solutions.
Within my primary research I focused on women as my core users. As women
have predominantly been overlooked as comic book readers, however I
aimed to consider women as potential users and to explore their experiences
of comics.
Looking at comics as a medium their established tradition strictly defines
the roles of reader and creator: where creators are active in terms
of controlling the narrative structure and art style, conversely readers
are arguably passive recipients of the imagery presented. I aimed to
alter the roles of reader and creator and produced various design concepts
around this idea.
Once I had finalised my concept I began a building phase in order to
realise my design in the degree show space. This website tracks the
process I undertook to create a viable solution to my proposal.
