  User Group Session 3

This session took the form of a questionnaire which asked users to comment on various features which either exist in an interactive TV service or could be implemented into one. The purpose of this was to gain an understanding of user needs as well as find out if users actually want to learn about new technologies.

  User Group Session 4

Each user was given a ‘blank remote’ and asked to then place buttons, which would be necessary to the function of the whole service, in a way they felt most comfortable. Twenty-six different buttons were given to each user and although the number of buttons was limited, designs varied greatly. All users were filmed and these films are now in DVD format.

  User Group Session 5

This session was primarily used to test various colour schemes as well as the basic layout of the ‘TV Guide’ Section. Mock-up interfaces were displayed to each user in a paper-based form where they were then asked to give their own feelings and comments. All users were filmed and these are now all in DVD format.

  User Group Session 6

Users were shown a paper-based prototype of my initial interface design. They were asked to then give comments on each page, which were then, of course, noted so they could be implemented into further prototype designs.

  User Group Session 7

For this session, users were shown the first Flash interface of ‘ETUT TV’. They were shown a demonstration of how the service would work and they were asked to give comments on everything on the way it looks to features or user messages that were missing or unclear. Users were first shown on a laptop (close-proximity), and then shown on a television and so comments were given for each platform used.

  User Group Session 8

Users were asked to test version 2 of the interface prototype as well as give their opinion on the two 3D remotes created. To test these effectively, users pressed buttons on the remote prototypes and I would then display the corresponding page on the user interface. This was to help show if there were going to be any problems with using the remote control and the interface together.

  Project Report

ETUT TV Project Report is my final report of the prject which includes my evalaution of th whole project process.

Welcome to the ETUT TV web page.

ETUT TV is my final degree project which is about interactive television specifically aimed at the elderly. It is estimated that every house has at least one television but only 53% have interactive television which may be because many people may harbour technophobes, particularly the elderly. The aim of this project is to create as much of a user-friendly system as possible in terms of interface design and physical design so that interactive TV will have as a large an audience as possible.

You can read more about ETUT TV by looking at my Project Proposal or the Project Information Handout.
