ETUT TV - Easier Than U Think Television

Week 15

  Tuesday 27th March 07, 14:45

Both the interface prototype and the remote control prototype are now completed and so now I am trying to gather everything together for the portfolio and arrange it in some kind of order. The interface eventually had three versions but as I mentioned last week very little needed changed between version 2 and 3. Version 3 can be seen below.
All that is really left to be done is labelling everything so that is obvious what everything is as I have realised I have more bits of paper than I realised!
I finished writing my final report yesterday (you can read it in ETUT TV Report) where I evaluated my project as a whole. In general, I think I have been successful against my original aims, the only thing I would perhaps change, if I could, would be one of the methods used in a few of the user groups sessions where I think I could have used the time with the users better. Other than that, everything I did from carrying out user group sessions to making prototypes turned out well with very little or no problems!

It’s been quite a busy past few days as I have managed to get quite a lot done which means i am almost near the end of my project. The final remote control prototype can be seen below. It is a non-functional remote which I think is still ok, as I have been more focused on design and user issues than technical issues. Also, the remote I have created will not work differently from existing television remotes and so I felt no need to really show it working.

Welcome to the ETUT TV web page.

ETUT TV is my final degree project which is about interactive television specifically aimed at the elderly. It is estimated that every house has at least one television but only 53% have interactive television which may be because many people may harbour technophobes, particularly the elderly. The aim of this project is to create as much of a user-friendly system as possible in terms of interface design and physical design so that interactive TV will have as a large an audience as possible.

You can read more about ETUT TV by looking at my Project Proposal or the Project Information Handout. I am located in the 4th year studio on level 8 of the Matthew Building at the University of Dundee.
