Noise Bomb Graphic Development

When creating initial graphic ideas for the pack I was aware that printing would also affect the design of them. Currently the pack will be made out of card however it is too thick to print on.  The graphics will also have to be printed on both sides of the card. These issues could not be ignored when designing the graphics for the Noise Bomb.

I started by playing around with ideas on paper.  I thought about how I wanted the noise bomb to be perceived by the users.  This proved a challenge, as there will two very diverse users that will expect a different experience from the pack. I wanted to make the pack feel exciting and aesthetically pleasing for the user that buys the pack.  For the person receiving the pack it is not meant to be a nice experience so the graphics should support this.

However putting these ideas into practice proved to be more difficult.  I could not find a way of making the pack a not very nice experience.  I thought about using pictures of objects that were considered not so pleasant, although I did not have much success in furthering this idea.  This is one area however that I will explore further when I make my final graphics.

I then began to think of ideas for the front of the pack. The idea opposite derived from thinking about the printing issue.  One way that I thought I could get around the issue was to make a printed binding that could be slipped on and off.  This would mean that it could be printed easily on paper.  The binding would wrap around the whole pack and contain pack details and graphics.

I decided to use red/ white and black as the main colours for this pack idea.  As the pack will have to contain instructions for two users I wanted to keep the design simple.  I didn’t want the users being distracted by the graphics and not being able to understand how the pack should be used.  For this reason I concentrated on using the text and colour as the main focus of the design.

Throughout this design I have tried to encompass the circle logo.  I think the series of circles emphasises the sound element of the pack very well and is in keeping with the campaign.

As two users will be using the pack I have to make sure that each person knows exactly what instructions are intended for them. I decided that I would make a small instruction booklet for the user that buys the pack.  This would mean that it is separate from the pack and would not get posted through the neighbour’s door.  This is ideal as then there will be no confusion over which instructions to read.
